Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered. Ask away.

1. How does Trustlines work?

It's all about tapping into your Three Degrees of Recommendation. You can follow anyone who uses Trustlines directly from Facebook, Twitter, or your address book. Next, simply designate the "few" people you trust most within a specific topic as your Trustlines. By limiting the group size of your Trustlines to five users or less per category, your expert's expert, and their expert's expert, become your experts too.

2. Why was Trustlines brought into this world?

The most valuable word-of-mouth comes from a small number of people we know and TRUST. However, simply creating an exclusive group of one's 3 to 5 "trusted few" defeats the whole power of a social network. Alternatively, 300+ recommendations from strangers is an unnatural way to discover a new TV Show, restaurant, or wine. All we require is just a few trusted opinions to discover what we love.

3. I DON'T want to create another social network - why Trustlines?

Trustlines sidesteps the whole mess of building a large social network because all you need is your trusted few. We're just talking about the handful of people you trust most. Once they join Trustlines, and bring in the people they trust most, the magic begins.

4. Is there a limit on the number of people I can follow?

You can follow as many people as your heart desires. However, following large numbers of acquaintances, celebrities, or casual friends won't necessarily improve how you discover more of what you love. This is why your Trustlines are always one touch away.

5. What happens if I already have 5 people as Trustlines and I want to add or turn on someone new?

You are limited to the number of Trustlines that can be turned on per category to five people. In fact, if you're super-selective when choosing your Trustlines, you'll probably find that five is too much. But, if you have five turned on and you want to add a new Trustline, simply turn off one of your existing Trustlines to make room. It's as easy as flipping a switch.

6. What is True 10 and how does it work?

Good question. True10 helps keep ratings relevant as people's tastes mature and they have new experiences. For example, let's say you gave Breaking Bad (season 2) a 10/10. In this case, every other TV show you rated received a score less than 10. However, season 3 comes along and blows your mind. So what happens to your existing perfect 10 rating? Glad you asked. The True10 system confirms you want to rate Breaking Bad (season 3) greater than your current 10. Season 3 now becomes your new True10, season 2 becomes a 9.9, and all the other ratings are adjusted down as well. In other words, all other rating systems don't rate.

7. Are Trustlines limited to the app, where else can I use them?

Trustlines is just one piece of the future Trust Graph. Based on our technology and IP, the vision is that the Trustlines API will live anywhere opportunities exist to enhance trust-based discovery or learning (Facebook, Google, Twitter, Pinterest, Comcast, Amazon, iTunes, OpenTable, LinkedIn, etc). Trustlines were created to co-exist across the entire social, search, commerce, and content landscape. The more you use Trustlines, the quicker we can plug our API into the platforms and sites you love most. It's all about trust.

8. Do I need an iPhone to use Trustlines?

Trustlines is launching as an iOS app that works on the iPhone and iPad. But don't worry, a browser and Android version are on deck.
